My work tends to travel along a path that springs from my unconscious. I don't
always know where it will lead me until I get there. This series is an expression of such a journey. The
images are all moving from right to left in a continuous motion with a grace and ease that are satisfying to me.
I enjoy my life, and am grateful for what I have been given over time. And sharing these gifts with others in the form of
my pottery makes it feel purposeful. Being able to work and live in the mountains makes me feel complete.
The pieces have been individually thrown with white stoneware. When dry, they are covered with a black slip.
I layer white slip onto the area where the images will be etched, then fill in the outline with black and gray slips
and etch the patterning. A red glaze is added around the drawing, and then high fired in an oxidation atmosphere.
A second low fire gives the work a satin finish. The glazes are food safe, and the finished piece is highly durable,
particularly chip resistant. |
